The proximity sensor is a handy feature on your smartphone that automatically help you turn off the screen when you place the phone on your ear while calling. It also helps you block accidental touches while the screen is off, especially when it is placed inside your pocket. That's not all, it can also help you play your Whats App audio through the ear speaker.

It can be very frustrating to see the proximity sensor is not working- you won't be able to hang up your calls and you may even be stuck on the lock screen if you don't know how to go about it.

This article will guide you on possible causes of TECNO proximity sensor not working and two major ways to get it fixed.

Right off the bat, a malfunctioning proximity sensor on TECNO phone can result from hardware defects - especially if the phone was heavily dropped. While making your way out to find a repairer, we do strong recommended visiting a reliable and well-experienced repairer, such as the official service centre for your brand.

So, not to panic, a walk-in into any of our centers near to you would help you diagnose and fix your proximity sensor not working during call.

You can also check the following solutions and see whether it works.

  • Restart your phone

Before trying any technical move, there is a possibility that there's nothing wrong with the sensor itself-it may be misbehaving because of some software glitches. A simple restart can help fix a lot of software-related issues on your smartphone, and it takes just about two minutes to get that done.

To restart your phone on many TECNO phones, kindly press and hold the power button for about 8-10 seconds or do it in a common way by holding the power button and swiping up on the screen.

Check if the sensor is now working properly or move to the next step.

  • Update your phone

On the other hand, a system bug lying around the system from the last system update might cause the proximity sensor not to work. Kindly check for the latest update on your phone by going to Settings >> System >> System Update >> Online update. Tap to download and install the update if there's any, it may help fix the problem.

  • Check dust or crack on screen on the sensor.

How often do you clean your phone? If you do it frequently, the problem may not be coming from there. But on the other hand, a crack or dirt on the upper part of the screen can lead to “call sensor not working” problem. Try wiping the screen thoroughly with a damp cloth wetted with alcohol or little water. However, if there's a crack on the screen, a visit to a repairer will help fix that (refer to the first solution stated in this article).

  • Remove screen guard and check

Is your screen guard well plastered to the screen? Can you notice some dots on the screen or probably some lines on the upper part of the screen? It can also trigger a fake image to the sensor, thereby causing it to malfunction. This is very common if you have a phone with a full screen. Try removing the screen guard gently (you may use your ATM card) and clean the screen. Try checking is the proximity sensor works properly now or move to a more drastic step below.

  • Reset your device

This is usually the last DIY trick to try to fix common smartphone issues. Resetting your device will clear all your data including your contacts, music, videos, files, etc.

Note: Ensure to always back up your phone before trying to perform a factory reset
